Daniel Hirst - Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) (RPQ)

Treats Clients Ages 16 and Older
Men's Mental Health

First Responders
Couples Counselling

Daniel is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) who works with adults and couples experiencing anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, stress, emotional overwhelm, self-doubt, life transitions, and the everyday pressures of trying to keep everything together. His therapeutic approach is warm, collaborative, practical, and down-to-earth. Daniel believes clients get the most out of therapy when they feel comfortable enough to be completely honest, without fear of judgment or the need to say the “right” thing. He strives to build an open space where clients can make sense of patterns keeping them stuck and work toward meaningful, realistic change. Rejecting the idea that therapy must feel overly clinical or rigid to be effective, Daniel integrates warmth, curiosity, and humour into his practice. He meets clients where they are rather than approaching sessions with a rigid, predetermined plan.

Daniel has a particular interest in working with adults, couples, and first responders who are accustomed to pushing through difficulties on their own—often supporting capable, responsible individuals navigating burnout, anxiety, disconnection, or unresolved past experiences affecting their present lives.
When working with couples, Daniel focuses on helping partners understand underlying relational dynamics rather than assigning blame. He supports couples facing communication breakdowns, recurring conflict, emotional distance, trust issues, and major life adjustments. Having completed Levels 1 and 2 training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Daniel integrates these principles alongside attachment-based and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). His broader practice is integrative and trauma-informed, thoughtfully drawing from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Person-Centred Therapy, and Narrative Therapy to suit each client’s unique needs.

Daniel’s clinical work is strongly informed by his prior experience in social care and frontline helping roles, which instilled in him the importance of patience, authenticity, and seeing the person behind the problem. Originally raised between Scotland and Ireland before making Canada his home, his personal experience navigating different cultures shapes his deep appreciation for identity, belonging, and life transitions.

Ultimately, Daniel views therapy as a collaborative partnership. He brings clinical insight, practical tools, and a supportive perspective to help clients understand themselves more clearly, resolve what is getting in the way, and build a life and relationships that feel authentic and manageable.

Outside of the clinic, Daniel enjoys playing video games with friends, golfing, hiking, and relaxing at home with a cup of tea and his two black cats.

Please reach out to Daniel at [email protected] to book your in person or virtual, individual or couples session!
